Investigation of Haunted  House

Elk Grove, CA 95624

Belinda Bentley’s notes: This was a very active investigation. There was oppression, a little girl, a pregnant woman, an angry and strong male and many other spirits. A woman said “hello,” to Farhan in the back yard, a little girl followed us around, possession and channeling took place. We wouldn’t not leave until the house was clear and safe. Below are Sandy’s note and report of this paranormal investigation.

Sandy Helms Notes

Historical Background:

I attempted to find any information about the previous owners but due to new laws I was not able to assess much the parcel number is 125-0243-008-0000 and it is listed as 13716 square feet.

This following information including picture was obtained from http://www.trulia.com/blog/lori_mode/2008/10/history_of_elk_grove_ca

Elk Grove was established in 1850 as a stop for the stage. It became a crossroads and hub for local commerce and played a part in the early gold rush being just 15 miles south of the historic Sutter’s Fort in Sacramento.

Investigation Notes:

We arrived on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 between 7:00 – 7:30 pm. The group included Farhan and his partner Sherrie, Celebrity Psychic Belinda Bentley founder of G.H.O.S.T,  and G.H.O.S.T members T. Flowers,  Brandon D., psychic Rubbie Salinas and Sandy Helms. Later Sherrie’s mother and father arrived.

What follows are my impressions, what I got on my tape recorder, my notes and what I experienced that night.

I arrived by myself first on approaching the old Victorian I could see why it might give some people the “creeps”. It had that old, a bit worse for the wear but authentic look. I did experience some trouble with the gate. I mention this because later in the evening Belinda said that she had believed it to be padlocked, it had such a secure feeling. I feel things; sometimes see things that aren’t there but usually when that happens I don’t know it wasn’t there until later. As I was walking up the steps I felt a real pressure in my head. I was greeted by both Farhan, Sherrie and their two dogs. The house while small has high ceilings and is decorated to be their castle fortress. Everything was fine until I got up to use the restroom. As I went through the dining room I felt like I was walking through a crowd. When I went in the restroom a small triceratops toy pivoted to get a better look at me. After checking it out I returned to the living room to greet the others.

Rubbie asked to take picture and Belinda walked in to get impressions. The standard room temperature appeared to be approximately 75 but in the master bedroom and guest bedroom the temperature dropped to 65 and up again throughout the visit. However, an open window in the guest room debunked any “supernatural” force there.

Farhan gave us a tour of the house starting with the child’s room where they now store their Marvel and Lion King toys to make it a more pleasant environment. Farhan told us that the room was frightening when he moved in. He said that they were told the child that the room was built for had tuberculosis and was sometimes housed in an outhouse in the back yard. She was eventually buried under the tree in the back yard. Rubbie immediately started having camera concerns in the toy room. Belinda didn’t feel anything until she started to leave and then she felt someone behind her. Farhan says that the room has the most activity during the winter months. He said that the little girl is active during that time. They keep a curtain hanging over the door frame closed in the winter because it is the coldest room in the house.  I felt pressure and as if I was being watched. Consistently I did not feel comfortable in this room.

Next we were shown the master bedroom which seemed empty but I did notice the aforementioned fluctuation of temperatures. The bathroom was shown that is decorated in dinosaurs, Next is the kitchen decorated in cows and cars with a toy Ferraris sitting in the middle of the table. When we entered the guest room Belinda immediately picked up that the wardrobe itself appeared to have something attached to it as well. She got something to do with a hidden compartment and something to do with the sea. Farhan told us that he was given a reasonable purchase price on it and that would explain why they delivered it and everything. During a later EVP session in this room I could smell French oak (like those used to make wine) very strong in the room. Belinda smelled something as well but could not identify it. Farhan in the tour said that they were now sleeping in this room because it was a bit cooler and the other night someone kicked in the door. Brandon noticed the second wardrobe and felt something there. As we started to leave the guest room Belinda looked up and said that she thought she had brought her daughter that a little girl has been following us the entire time. Rubbie also noticed this girl following us through out the rooms.

Something that seemed to happen when we first arrived was that a room felt occupied by a spirit or spirits and then it became empty quickly after entering. It was almost as if we were chasing the spirits away or they were shy. One of the things I believe changed that was that Belinda continued to tell the spirits that we were not there just to take pictures or record EVPs but we were here to help them to move on, communicate something or help them with their needs.

Next was the back yard tour, we exited through the laundry room and down some steep steps to a long wide yard. Rubbie continues to take pictures throughout. Farhan showed us the “bomb shelter” that was also used for vegetable and refrigeration. Rubbie took one for the team and reached in and took pictures for us. I moved to the far side to see into it. It was at that time that I saw a head move from my side to the center of the hole and start to look up as if looking to see what we were doing. I asked Rubbie to see if she could capture a picture. Belinda was asking if there are spirits that stay in the bomb shelter and she promptly heard a whispered response. Rubbie’s camera acted as if there was movement but didn’t show anything. Belinda decided to try to get and EVP in the bomb shelter with her recorder. During this time she noticed a heat surge. She also said that she feels like she is hearing conversations but there were a lot of traffic noises.

The fig tree in the middle of the yard has a lot of activity per Farhan (and as confirmed by Paul – HPI at the previous investigation). Farhan also had a friend from Florida confirm the energy in the yard but “he couldn’t get a lock on it.” There are two bodies buried in the back yard. There was a large tree where the girl is buried. At the smaller tree T. Flowers felt something looking at him from behind the tree and by the roses in the back of the property. He seemed to be transfixed by it and tried to communicate with it. Rubbie showed Belinda pictures with orbs in the back yard.

In the back corner of the lot is outhouse where the child was kept. Brandon got strong feelings about a little child crawling on the ground in front of the structure. Farhan was told the girl was 9 years old and died of TB. During this time Rubbie had more problems with her camera.

We moved to the middle of the yard at Belinda’s suggestion to try to communicate as there is a lot of energy there. Belinda guided us to visualize a vortex in the middle of the circle, ask spirits to join us and since we weren’t getting responses we moved further back on the property. During this time we introduced ourselves:  Belinda is a psychic and a medium and one can communicate with her by talking to her. T. Flowers is a sensitive and gets feeling and sees things. Brandon is a psychic. Rubbie is a psychic and a supernatural specialist. I think my best description is an empathic.  Farhan owner is the owner and sees and feels things, Sherrie also lives there and feels them and has seen spirits.

Belinda started by saying, and I am paraphrasing. That we are here to help you cross over, if you are sad, if you are stuck we can help you get unstuck, we aren’t here to take your picture or get recordings – you are welcome to co-exist with the owner.  Farhan shared that the doctor who lived here was Dr. H. L. Stitch and his wife Minnie. After that, a fellow that was Hawaiian and a veteran from Germany – Mannheim (SN: I believe he said this was his name) – as he spoke about Mannheim who he calls his Uncle Belinda witnessed a rainbow that crossed his hand.

We used the ghost phone and got a Spanish accent on the response while I heard the word “si”. Belinda heard the name Peter. (A name that came up several times throughout the evening.)  Farhan shared that there is a Peter that lives there and that he lost a daughter. He is half Spanish/Mexican??  (SN: Again, couldn’t understand which Farhan was implying). The group moved in further to ask questions of the spirits with assistance from the ghost phone. I missed a good deal of this information. While moving in and claiming she is afraid of spiders but was doing it anyway she got an affirmation as the ghost box called her name.

I wandered off to check out the outhouse and Belinda saw someone on the stairs. About this time Sherrie’s parents arrived. Sherrie’s camera died when they were on the ghost phone because they told Belinda they need more energy to communicate. There is an energy that is “trying to get a message across” according to Farhan’s friend and Belinda agreed. Rubbie shared a picture in the ivy where we were that included a gargoyle figure in the back. Someone is repeating a name over and over to the guys with an angry voice. Belinda explained that it may not be anger just frustration trying to get in contact with us.

While the entire group is at the very back of the property now Belinda asks them to use our physical energy and let us know what you need – are you stuck here? They were stopping the ghost phone because they did not know how to communicate now they are using the ghost phone with yes response. Through questions it was discerned that there was something here that doesn’t want us to help and keeping the others from communicating. Brandon noted that they heard early the word “keep” as in they want to keep them here. Then there was the word “spirit” and then laughter and “shut up”. Belinda wanted to work out something to help the spirits that need help. Someone heard what can you do? But there was some indecision as to whether that was the radio or a spirit. At this point Farhan started asking questions since he seemed to get more responses. He asked if it was the doctor that built the house. The ghost phone kept unlocking. So Belinda was asking for more clarification and found out that there still was another Peter here. It was determined it was about the Peter that is living. When Belinda asked if there was a message for Peter the answer was yes. When asked if his daughter wants to communicate with him.  Brandon heard “I did or I did it”. The energy Belinda got was that yes someone wants to communicate with Peter but someone is stopping them

That as long as you are on this property you are controlled by this spirit. Sherrie got a picture of a big orb by Belinda at this point. Farhan talked at this point about seeing the Black Smith that lived downstairs. He was going downstairs going for alight and saw a big figure in front of him and put his hand on his chest.

Belinda felt that if they are not strong enough to communicate they are not strong enough to stop us so we are going to help whoever needs help. She had us all visualize a white light adding the assistance of our positive spirit guides or angels to help pull them through if they needed to leave. During all this time the air was very heavy and oppressive. We had a positive outcome as there was a shift and everything felt lighter.

Here I had an ADHD moment and wandered over to visit with Sherrie’s parents so I do not have notes about the groups continued efforts in the back yard. I went in to the house to get another tape before everyone else and I distinctly heard a woman crying. She did not respond to my questions but suddenly stopped. I asked the homeowners about it and they have never heard this before.

Once all were back in the house again. Farhan was telling Belinda about the door of the guest room being kicked in when they were sleeping in there. He said he got images of a boxing and found out the guy that had this house before him was a boxer. He was the vet in Germany, who moved to Texas after here. He died of cancer due to exposure to Agent Orange. Farhan does not know if his wife is still alive.  During this transitional time Sherry had Farhan shared a story about an electric razor. It ran continued to turn itself on even without batteries and finally Farhan threw it out the window.

Belinda noted that Farhan has a natural intuitiveness and Farhan said maybe but he had never accepted it. That his father has always been gifted and foresees things in his dreams

Belinda noted that Sherrie stays back and observes and is very cautious. Sherrie’s mom tells us that at her old house she saw something but didn’t tell anyone and Sherrie also saw the same thing exactly. There were 3 large black figures entering the master bedroom. Now the new house they are in also has something there. Sherrie said she isn’t really afraid of them except at her parent’s house she wouldn’t want to take a shower there. They continued to tell how something there mimics their voices. Sherrie’s mom told about her husband being in the restroom and talking through the wall to her. She went to answer and discovered that he was not in the room. That he was in the back yard. Farhan said he even heard one when he and Sherrie were visiting calling out to them that she would be right there to answer the door in Sherrie’s mom’s voice. But no on was at home at the time.

After a short break where snacks were brought out Belinda assigned us all to sections of the house where we would take one tool and sit in the dark to see what type of readings, impressions, EVPs, etc. We might get. The rooms were counted and the bathroom was assigned as Belinda felt there was something in there. I was assigned the bathroom so I took my tool bag and headed on my way.

I went to the bathroom for 10 minutes with the lights off 71 degrees in there so far no EVPs but I did hear rustling and movement and my tape is very scratchy. 69.3 degrees and I felt someone there, sounds like an exhale but recording is not clear so I cannot be certain. I checked that temp was down to 69. At point when I asked if the spirit knows my name I think I can hear a whispered yes but again the tape is damaged so I cannot use it here as evidence. During this time I repeatedly saw flashes under the door to the master bedroom. Later, I asked and was told no one was in there was a flashlight or camera. I stopped the recorder to check for any movement or voice recordings and was using my flashlight to check it when I was called by Belinda – the electricity appeared to go out for the entire block.

The homeowners light candles and we gathered in the dining room/foyer area to try to communicate with the spirits. While we all shared our experiences apart Farhan told about seeing foot prints on the backstairs either going up or down, my understanding is that this was witnessed by one of the young men but not sure which one.

Belinda took out her spirit phone for a while and then the app on her smart phone. She was trying to get the information as to whether the spirits at this house made the lights go out. When asked how many spirits were here we received multiple answers. Belinda ultimately asked them to stop open a channel even though it was locked to give us a “yes” answer.  Several of us heard the response of “si” or a Hispanic accent so Rubbie attempted to communicate speaking Spanish. She asked if they understand Spanish, speak Spanish, etc. . . .  After some guidelines and responses Sherries’ mom said she heard a bell as did several of us coming from the master bedroom. Farhan got up to retrieve the bell in the room and several of us recognized the sound and it was quite a large bell for them to be able to ring.  After this point, Belinda directed the spirits that they could communicate with Rubbie in Spanish, us in English and they could ring the bell. I believe it was finally confirmed by the spirit via the ghost phone that there were 15 spirits with us then. Farhan shared when he moved in someone took pictures and there were close to 50 orbs around him. Belinda asked if there were any spirits that needed help. Through the spirit phone we heard 5 and some hesitation and then 6 (this was confirmed by Sandy & Brandon). Brandon noticed the light coming on a couple times and going right out. It was not determined if that was due to the power attempting to come back on or a spirit attempting to communicate.

Next we moved to the master bedroom where Belinda checked in to see if anyone wanted to communicate with us. Belinda, Sandy, Rubbie all felt vibrations and flashes behind our eyes.  Belinda told the spirit that we sensed him and felt someone. Belinda felt that someone was happy and dancing around us. (SN: I was embarrassed to say at the time but I was touched several times on my right breast). I got a severe pressure that was an instant headache and thought I was going to faint. During this time I got a very vivid flash of a man on the floor with blood seeping through a bandage. A woman with a white apron was trying to help him. I could feel his pain in his gut. I felt their fear that they were going to get caught. I had the sense that they were afraid of the doctor. The man kept saying “so much blood”.

We all held hands with our eyes closed. Belinda told the spirit to stop negativity. Belinda felt like someone was pushing her back. She could also hear talking at this time. Belinda asked if anyone had ever channeled. Sherrie’s mom was interested so she explained the guidelines and we were going to help keep her safe.

Sherrie’s mom began to channel. She felt energy and peacefulness (that Belinda confirmed she felt this as well). She felt her arms needing to rise. She said “Why?” Brandon was felling something evil. Belinda said to stop that is not okay. Belinda felt the temperature drops. Sherrie’s mom felt a chill on her back. Belinda recognized more energy. Sherrie’s mom said, “Mary”. Belinda feels a strong masculine energy that feels like a wrestler that jumped into her body. Farhan asked if she was the black smith and Belinda said no. The curtain moved (Brandon and Tameron saw it). Sherrie’s mom seemed to channel “Why are you all here?  You are disturbing me.” Several felt a lot of people behind them. Tameron had to leave. Belinda explained that we were here if they need help. Sherrie’s mom said they think it is funny. Belinda said there is a pregnant one and other guy there is a lot of them coming through. Brandon asked if any old relatives were in the room. No response. Sherrie’s mom asked if her brother was here. Belinda asked her to repeat who she had just asked about. Sherrie’s mom said her brother. Belinda identified him as Johnny and said that he is just above her head and said that he has always been here. Belinda relayed something Like why are you looking for me, I have been here all along. And you are going to pretend like you don’t hear me. That’s funny. Sherrie said that sounded like him that he was a jokester. Belinda said for some reason he keeps saying Steven or Stephen.  Belinda is hearing from Johnnie is STEV-en (with exasperation) says a baby is on its way. Johnny showed Belinda a guy with a cowboy hat and said, “Ride ‘em, cowboy…yee haw!” Farhan & Sherrie’s mom recognized that as sounding like Steven. Johnnie said to Sherrie’s mom that he can tell you things are going to be okay and not worry but he knows you will anyway. Farhan asked if it was his uncle that opened the door the other night. Belinda gave a definitive “No, it was not.” When Farhan said, “somebody opened the…” Belinda said, “Yes, it was me.” Belinda shared that a man had joined her and he feels like the incredible hulk, getting bigger, stronger, Farhan asked, “Do you mean us harm?” Belinda replied, “No. I was pissed. Why are you going to be in my room?” Belinda said I feel like you have to acknowledge him when you enter the room. I just feel like he has claimed his space. Farhan asked, “Do you just not want us sleeping in there?” Belinda said “I just feel like he wants to be acknowledged. This is his space too and don’t pretend we don’t all live together.” Farhan asked, “Well, what is your name?” Belinda said, “Calm down…just settle down and just give me a name.” Farhan, “Are you the doctor?” Belinda, “No.” “Oh, I don’t feel good” Farhan, “Did you live here in the 1800s?” Belinda, “No, 1900s.” “Okay, stop making me not feel good and just speak. There is no reason for you to get all huffy and puffy and upset when I am trying to communicate with you. He wants to acknowledge you and he wants to call you by name so could you just…Harold? (In the background Rubbie whispered that she heard Harold. Sherrie’s mom said I just had that name in my head…Harold. I had no idea where it came from. Farhan asked, “You want us to say hi to you?” Belinda answered, “Yes.” Farhan asked “Are you the one who would walk by and hit that door?” Belinda answered, “Yes, it was me and I am going to do it again if you don’t acknowledge me.” Belinda speaking to Harold, “You know I am just going to say it – You really have an attitude problem right now. You could be nicer. It is really hard for them to communicate with you.” Belinda continued, “I am not going to back down because he is using my body and he is saying the reason he is upset right now is that you can hear him, you have heard him, you have seen him and yet you won’t acknowledge him.” Farhan asked, “I have physically seen him?” Belinda asked,”Has he physically seen you?” “Yeah, he is backing down. “He is saying that yes you have seen a shadow of him. He was walking from the kitchen to the washroom.” Do you remember that?” Sherry said, “I saw someone at the table.” Belinda said, “He’s …yeah, wasn’t the one at the table more feminine?” Sherrie said, “Yeah.” Belinda, “He is saying that Farhan saw him from behind. And that is probably why he is pissed because you didn’t even realize you saw him or that he was there but he thought you did.” “So it is like we are cohabiting …what is it? Co-existing this house together and you haven’t bothered to pay attention to him (and then to Harold) “And do you see where you are getting an attitude and he didn’t even know you were present at the time?” Belinda said to Farhan, “I actually have an apology for you he said to say he is sorry.” Sherrie’s mom said, “Harold, from now on they will say hello so be nice to him and my daughter.” Some clarification went on and then Farhan asked, “Was Harold married?” Belinda said, “I feel like he was but he got a divorce before he died.” Farhan asked, “Is that why he is bitter.” Belinda, “Yes, he is tired of living alone and now he isn’t alone but he IS alone…that is exactly how he feels.”  Farhan went on to clarify all occasions when he should say hi.

Just as we were about to close the circle a strange laugh came from Rubbie but it did not sound like Rubbie. The lights went on. Belinda asked, “Do you like to sing.?” Rubbie said”uh huh”. (an affirmative) The entire times she was rocking on her feet and standing like a child. Belinda asked how old she was and finally found out that she was 7. Belinda asked, “ Do you have brothers and sisters?” Rubbie whispered “umhmm” Belinda asked, “Are they here too?” Rubbie whispered, “uh huh”.  Belinda asked “Really they are all here?” “Is this your home? Are your parents here too?” Rubbie replied, “uh huh”. Farhan asked, “What’s your name?” Rubbie whispered “Isabel”. Farhan repeated, “Isabel?” Brandon said something about the back yard and Rubbie grimaced and shook her head no. Belinda asked, “You don’t want to go back there? Have you ever been back there?” Rubbie nodded and said “uh huh”. Belinda asked, “ When you were alive?” Brandon asked something about was it back there. Rubbie said “nuh uh” (negative). Someone asked,” Did you die here?” Belinda asked “Are you dead?” Rubbie whispered, “uh huh”. “Where did you die? Did you die at age 7…in this house?” Rubbie gave a negative response and gestured the other direction to the front of the house. Farhan asked,” the stairs? Did you fall?” Rubbie said something about being hit or ran over. Belinda asked if it was a car or a stage coach.”  Rubbie whispered, “Car”. Someone asked what year? No answer. Farhan, asked, “What about your siblings did they die here? Are they older than you?” A nod came from Rubbie. Farhan asked, “a lot older?”  Rubbie whispered “17 and 31″. Farhan asked did they die outside also?” (SN: I cannot hear Rubbie’s response.) Rubbie suddenly looked up and asked “what the hell happened?” She looked like she was waking from a dream. She asked, “Why is the light on?” “Was I snoring or something, I am sorry.” Belinda said, “That was interesting.”

The circle broke up and we wandered back to the living room. There the group visited, talked about the previous investigation and discussed some of the things that happened tonight, etc.  During this talk Belinda turns to Farhan and says, “You look different. You look very different.”  Farhan did look different something was pulled or strained about his eyes and his face was wider and a different skin tone – almost jaundice. Farhan admitted to feeling like someone or something was in his face. He feels like weight on him. He feels under attack like someone is holding on to his back. Farhan feels like he was having alpha dog dominance. He felt like he was ready to defend and he is shivering. Belinda tried to communicate with the spirit but Farhan was still in a power struggle and couldn’t communicate. Belinda got the name Anthony but the only Anthony they knew was Sherrie’s ex-boyfriend. Rubbie did Tarot cards and confirmed the battle over the house. Belinda asked what was going on with the investigation with Paul and calling it a “Casper” haunt. That he seemed to have anger about it. Farhan seemed to have some anger. Belinda said Farhan needs to talk through him. Belinda got something while in the room from a woman that the doctor use to do things he wasn’t suppose to do and didn’t want the outside world to find out about it. She continued that she was trying to feel the doctor this whole time and couldn’t feel his energy so she is thinking this may be the doctor since she cannot connect with him either.  Belinda directed us to go into a circle to make sure we were not bringing anything home and that Farhan was safe since he still felt the man behind him. Her fear was that as soon as we were gone he would latch on to Farhan again. Belinda instructed him to tell him to leave and then determined that it did not like the female energy. All the men stepped away and all the women surround Farhan, touched his shoulders and told the entity firmly to leave. Farhan felt relief and everyone was confident the spirit had left the house. Rubbie want to all the thresholds and windows and placed salt and cayenne to protect the house. Belinda sent Rubbie and me through the house one last time to check to see if anything was amiss. It all came up clear so we all said our good byes and went on our way.

It Wasn’t Human
Reporter: Belinda Bentley

Irvin Ayala called HPI Paranormal certain what he saw last week in New Jersey wasn’t human. Last Sunday, Irvin and his cousin ventured out on his dads property which is private land, to hunt for turkey and rabbits on the seven acres. There is a gravel road that has a caution cone at the end of it. There is only one way in and one way out by vehicle and this was it. After a while in the woods they shot at some ground hogs and then in the distance they saw a little black dog. They used binocular to focus on it, but the figure would never come into focus. Looking again they saw a dark mass that looked like a human torso.

Since this is private property no one should be on this land at this time. Irvin radioed his dad to find out if anyone had been given permission to hunt, because by law it must be recorded. Two days prior two men asked to hunt, but they had since left. Looking at it again it was pacing back and forth. Now there are two black mass. One a little dog and the other a man, taller than Irvin who is 5’9″ and the figure looked husky. The shadows kept walking through the woods a great distance away from them. They were trying to make out a distinction between clothes and skin and neither was present so out of seer fear they began to run. When they turned around the thing had covered half the distance between it and the frightened cousins.

Reaching a cabin they shined a huge light on the creature. It still being far away, they made out a silhouette of a person coming toward them. The dog like creature was a black mass on all fours with no ears or features. They ran to the back and got into their truck and road out to where it was. They were searching for tracks other than their own, some kind of boot or animal tracks and neither were present. To Irvin this is clear that it isn’t human, big foot or an animal. It was ghostly. Paul suggested in the first conversation that he look up shadow people. Irvin Googled it and said the picture took his breath away. It was the same figure without the hat. They just might have encountered a shadow creature in the New Jersey woods, where the legendary Jersey Devil is said to be.

Interview By: Belinda Bentley

Melissa Bryan, believes she was married to Billy the Kid in a past life. She gives detailed accounts of her memories that dispute what many believe really happened to him. She tells us when he died, how he died; was he left handed or right handed and gives details that even historians can’t agree on or figure out for sure. She has marriage certificates and other documents from doing a genealogy investigation into this. I don’t know if this really is the reincarnated wife of Billy, but I can say I do believe in past lives. Either way this is a fascinating story if you’ve ever had an interest in this outlaw, past lives or the wild west.

Billy was born William Henry McCarty, Jr on November 23, 1859 and according to history died at age 21 on July 14, 1881. He was rumored to have killed between 9-22 men, but back in those days stories were extremely exaggerated. There are eye witness accounts that say he killed one man in self-defense and that’s where his bad reputation came from and how he became an outlaw in the first place. He was a well liked man according to interviews at that time. His occupation cowboy, gambler, cattle rustler and then a man on the run.

Melissa,  I’m intrigued. There is a lot I want to know. How did you discover your past life with Billy the Kid, and can you share what evidence you have to support it?

I discovered it actually quite by accident. I had recieved a Book on it that I still have in my Collection and had started to have memories after starting to read it. Flash backs and dreams of that time and place, but not based on anything I had read of. I just knew instinctively (I am also a Medium), what was true and what was false of the story. I then went on a journey to prove what I was experiencing (I swear I was very skeptical at the time), but everything I witnessed only brought more memories, nightmares and flashbacks. Which meant I had to search farther.

At age 14, I went to Santa Fe, NM and the Navajo Rez. Billy, his spirit self met me there, at the Cantina where we first met in that lifetime. He asked me to try to remember my last life with him. Then I had an NDE (near death experience), where I stepped out of my body and went to the other side. I was met by Billy and my family. I was made to come back and was asked to fill the mission to tell what Really happened back then and to make the dream of becoming a wealthy ranch owner. That when it is my time he will return for me. The Elders here in Taos at Taos Pueblo told me I am ancient soul, elder even before them and they, with my beloved great aunt Irene, encouraged me to search farther into my family’s history. What I found has enlightened and astonished me. I am Iroquois and Cherokee this life and was Navajo then. There are so many parallels between my current and former selves, it is funny. I even have photos of my current and former self. Side by side – identical. When I saw that photo, my jaw dropped, it just stopped me dead in my tracks.
All the memories came flooding back. It was the lady I saw myself when I had my NDE. I have photos, family documents, birth, marriage and death records. Also family trees and other documentation. I do family genealogy work for my family on the side. So much so, that I have large folders full. It would take me making a CD Rom collection or just flat out writing a book on it, to list everything I have. In a gun shop in Tucson, AZ., I found the Pistol that Pat Garrett put in Billy’s hand the night he died to frame him and make it look like he was armed. It still has the blood spatters eating at the Metal.

I continue to see Billy nearly everywhere. The most notable was this past December. I was going into town to run errands and when I was getting into my truck, the one that came out of the house behind mine was none other than blue eyes, with fast reaction time and ears that stuck out far. He saw me and smiled wide, blue eyes shining. I swear I forgot to breathe. Same sweet voice as I remembered. As he got close to the Post Office, I watched as he faded away feet to head. It turns out, Billy and I are 9th generation cousins by marriage in this life and I am descended of numerous famed names besides his.

What really happened? What’s the real deal you are meant to share? Is there anything specific you want to mention about the set up, who is to blame, and what really happened? The other thing is you mentioned being 14 when some of this was doing on, so how old where you when you first realized Billy the Kid was your husband in a past life?  Do you feel your Native American background has anything to do with why the lifetime is so power in your memories?

The set up was that he was blamed for some murders that he never committed, that some people he knew did commit. Who is really to blame, is Pat Garrett, who was a tool of the wealthy and powerful. Also, Lou Wallace who was the head of the Santa Fe Ring is to blame too, yet he is moved on now. He approached me from spirit, begging my forgiveness. We made our peace. It is just that night, it is claimed I saw everything and that wasn’t true. I was in the kitchen at the Maxwell Ranch. I was making our supper. We had been together that night after Billy got off work. He was a Cowboy for the Maxwell’s. When it all ended up, he died in my arms. I had to clean everything up because I was a housekeeper for the Maxwell’s. We were headed for Mexico the following morning. Paulita was my cousin and she never would have betrayed me like that. Likewise, Billy never touched any other women. He was on the run. He couldn’t be around people. What most don’t realize is that Billy killed Windy Cahill, but it was self defense. He was being beaten to a pulp. He didn’t have a choice. If he had not have done that, Windy would have beaten him to death.  Our kids (there were 4 of them), would not have had a dad. Billy was a good and heavily honest person. When I saw the photo of myself from my last life, that is when I first remembered it in full, then about 3 years later I obtained a book written by a descendant that alluded to it and was taken to the very location it happened. About a year later I found the record that finally tied everything together.

My Native America heritage could possibly have something to do with such strong memories. In Native Philosophy, we are all one and everything past and present affects the future.

In reality, if all of this is indeed true, this is a love story for you. A man you loved so deeply is waiting for you on the other side, waiting for you to fulfill a mission so you can come back home. It’s very romantic and yet seems tragic that you would have to wait so long…

Billy and I ran together, fought together, loved and lived together. We had a great 11 years of marriage. We wed Feb. 11, 1871, so recorded in Santa Fe, NM archives. Our marriage was quiet and secret. Only those closest to us knew of the ceremony. It was after dark, around midnight, no flowers, bells or finery. It was quick, it was small and no one else knew of it. We never told a soul. All there was were candles and lanterns for Light. Blankets were put over the windows to hide what was going on. We left on horseback for our honeymoon. We went to Clovis, NM.
Always traveled by darkness, so as not to be seen. It was a promise I had made to Katherine, Billy’s dying mom, that I would be his wife and would care for him as she would have expected.
It was Katherine’s passing that really set Billy off, aside from his employer’s passing at the hands of the very crooked Santa Fe Ring.

Between those two things, he just went crazy a bit, I guess you could say. However, who could blame him for wanting Justice to be done? Little did he know, he was dying too. The TB had him in its grips as well. To this day, I still Love him. Always have, always will. I will fulfill the mission, one way or another. He always wanted to be wealthy, powerful, settle down, just us and our children. We were planning a larger family, but never got the chance. Our last son was born 5 months after his dad’s passing.

There is a big debate about Billy being left handed or right handed. A movie about him was called “The Left Handed Gun,” because of a picture that could possibly be a mirror image. Can you clear that up for us?

Right handed, but he was actually Ambidextrous. Right Handed with pistol and left handed with rifle.

According to history, Billy the Kid died when he was 21. You say you spent 11 years together, so according to you and your past life memories, when did he died exactly?

He was actually 27 almost 28 when he passed. He was ambushed and killed. Shot in the back with the family hunting rifle by Pat Garrett, in our Bedroom, not in Pete Maxwell’s room.
We had just recently moved to the large house from the former hospital building. I had been promoted to a house servant, which back then was quite a bonus. To live in the big house was quite the big thing. I was also a nanny for Pablita, my Cousin, whom I had helped raise and was like a daughter to me. Billy and I had been together that night. He had just gotten off work, cowboying for Pete Maxwell. We took different routes back to the big house, so no one would see us together. It was a move meant to protect each other. I went to the community cocina or kitchen. He came in a few minutes later.
Our kids were playing at my feet. I was 4 months along with our last child at the time. He was hot, dirty and exhausted. Our kids perked up, calling for him, one around his waist, the other two in his arms. He hugged me with them, we spoke in hushed Spanish, so no one would hear our plans. We were leaving for Mexico the next morning. Everything was packed and ready to go. I had left our overnight bag in our room. Also, Pete, being my Boss, had said he was not feeling well and I gave the O.K. For him to lay down in our room, as I was also the closest thing that they had to a Doctor. I had told Billy that Pete had butchered out a steer that same day, Billy said he would go get some meat, the last ingredient in that night’s Meal and would also go get the bag and go say good-bye to Pete, collect his pay and we would eat and leave. So, I gave him the knife he had in his hand.

We were staying with my cousins, it was at their home, that he had left his pistol and gun belt, so was also unarmed. He must have heard screams coming from the vicinity of our home, assuming it was me, being roughed up again by Pat and his men. He went to see what the trouble was and to protect me and our family. It seems Pete had left our room and grabbed and tied up my cousin Pablita instead. He saw the men, asking who they were and then was shot and killed. I heard the shots but didn’t think anything of it, as Beaver Smith’s Saloon was just down the street a bit and was always rowdy like that. One of the boys in town came running, telling me Billy had been shot and killed. I stormed from the kitchen, thinking that this was one of Billy’s Practical Jokes. I was clearly not amused. When I saw the townspeople around our room crying and talking quietly, my heart sank. I knew something was wrong. They tried to keep me from going in, I knew I had to see it. He was there, bleeding badly, a large hole in him. I knew he was dead or dying. I screamed, ran to him. He took his last breath in my arms. I was sobbing, inconsolable. The blood soaked into my night dress, but I didn’t care. It was horrible. I can never erase this from my memory.

Interview done for HPI Paranormal

Belinda founder of G.H.O.S.T

Jake E. from Washington put in a call to HPI and spoke with Paul Dale Roberts. Paul informed me there was an interesting story here and I should give him a call. It definitely is an interesting story! Headline: Man Receives a Call From 1980.

At 3:33am Jake saw he had a missed call. It was from a private number. He looked at the time and it was “Dead Time.” (3:00am a time when the veil thins between the spirit world and ours. It’s a time when nightmares happen or a time when you are most likely to have a prophetic dream. For paranormal investigators it could be a great time to get EVPs.) This isn’t strange or unusual, but then he looks at the date. The date is Monday, March 10, 1980…last century. The call came from 32 years ago.

My first thought was a software problem at Sprint. So Jake and I hung up and he called his phone provider. The woman, he says, thought he was nuts. He asked “Is an error like this possible?” Her response, “Obviously it’s possible if it happened?” No help there. Jake decided to do some research about March 10. Maybe there was a message beyond the grave. The only story he found in relation was Dr. Herman Tarnower, who was a cardiologist and the author of a best selling diet book based out of New York. He was shot and killed March 10, 1980 by his ex-girlfriend Jean Harris for carrying on love affairs with other women during there 12 year relationship. There was a movie based on this as well as mentioned in ‘Seinfeld’ TV series.

Could this be a message from Dr. Herman himself? It could be, but I wanted more options to choice from. Jake’s mother died when he was only 3 years old. Now being a medium I would automatic assume the spirits are trying to get his attention. The date may not be as important as just simply getting his attention. Moms have a way of doing that, but then again this is only a theory, but one that feels strong to me.

Jake’s past paranormal experiences come from a place he used to work in Portland, Or. ‘Screams at the Beach’, where they scare visitors with vampires, mutants, zombies, and evil clowns. A super mall is turned into a haunted attraction and as a bonus they have a historic haunted carousel where people claim to hear the voices and see a boy and girl dressed in clothes from the 1920′s. There is a story of a boy that got killed 1940′s. A paranormal group went in to find proof. Jake took a recorder and went off alone trying to get EVPs, though he came up empty handed he felt the whole time that he wasn’t alone. He felt someone had been with him.

Nothing is 100% solid in this case, but I will say without a shadow of a doubt I believe Jake’s story. He tried to research it, debunk it or prove it’s real. I told him we don’t have much to go on and I felt the best course of action was to wait to see if it happens again, or to ask whatever spirit to do it again. If it listens we can get proof it’s an intelligent spirit doing this and not a Sprint or phone malfunction. Unless he has a hacker in his phone listening in when he ask that question, if it happens again, we can start leaning towards the supernatural. This is the first case of it’s kind for HPI, if anyone else has experienced this please call into the Hotline.

Growing Up Psychic

Author: Psychic Medium Chip Coffey

Book Review By: Belinda Bentley

Today, April 3, 2012 Growing Up Psychic will be released. When I received the book last week, I was excited to read it, but I didn’t have high hopes for anything amazing or extraordinary to pop out of the page. I’ve read many psychic books over the years. They are all different and informative and some even life changing, but after years, and years of pouring over this information you find things a bit repetitive, redundant.

I will tell you now…go pick up your own personal copy of this book!! The material written is excellent for the seasoned psychic, paranormal enthusiast, avid paranormal reader or someone new to it all. I began reading this book and couldn’t put it down. If it was repetitive of any other information out there I didn’t notice, because it was put in a new fresh way. It was almost like a suspense story – what will happen next? It’s gripping when Chip Coffey relayed his own extraordinary paranormal experiences. I stayed up until 5am reading, falling asleep with the book still in my hand.  I honestly was having a difficult time putting it down.

Growing Up Psychic pretty much touched on everything – I don’t think Coffey, held back much. He took the initiative to cover what fans loved about Psychic Kids. The abilities, triumphs, successes, and the experiences beyond what you’ve seen on TV. Then he took to covering the psychological aspect as well as the psychic one too. It was extremely entertaining, but profoundly helpful and informative in a way no other psychic book has been.

As entertaining as it was I also feel that a lot of parents of psychic kids, or adults who were psychic kids will get comfort knowing that they aren’t alone. This book, in my own personal opinion, can save many children and parents from some physiological damage. The damaged caused by not understanding the supernatural. This is a book I’d recommend families read together.

A neighbor of mine, many years ago,  recounted a time her husband had her put in a mental institution because she saw her dead mother and heard voices. She proved she was psychic, but it scared her due to the trauma of being put away for having a sixth sense. This book would have indeed comforted her and maybe even her family. How many families may now benefit from this information?

I’ll definitely be recommending this book to others and it really couldn’t come at a better time. This book is a voice for anyone who grew up psychic and those who want to understand them.

How to get a copy?

Critic’s note: I am never paid to write a review on books or to try a product. The views here are solely the views of Belinda Bentley.

Other Articles from Blogger: A Text Message from a Famous Ghost,

Artemas Ward Text Messages from the Spirit World
By Belinda Bentley Celebrity Psychic

Last night March 24, 2012 at 10:30pm EST did you receive a text message from the dead?

No? Well Jeremy called to tell HPI Paranormal that is exactly what happened to his friend last night. Jeremy was talking with Alexis on the phone around 7 to 7:30pm Pacific time when all of a sudden the phone call was dropped. He called his friend back and text her, but neither would go through, call failed. On the other hand, when he called and text his other friends the calls/text were completed and went through just fine. He had four bars on his phone – he was getting excellent reception. His WiFi was on, everything was connected but he couldn’t get through to Alexis!

The next morning Alexis told him why. She started getting text messages from his phone number. It was an entity she claimed. The entity called himself Artemas Ward. Does that name sound familiar? It’s a part of US history so it should. Jeremy and I both thought this could be a hacker, but the story is so interesting that we had to write about it anyway. Maybe we can prove otherwise…or reach out to people who might have had the same experience. If this was a hacker, I’d love to hear from someone about how this was done. Is it even possible?

The conversation via text went on for about 2 hours. Artemas said to Alexis; “We have been limited by our leader. Been limited to what we can disclose.” The leader Artemas says is someone named Carmetrious, who was cast into the place with his kind in 1200. Artemas says he was cast into this place “nor angels, nor demons dwell in 1800.” And “I have been here for so long to watch and examine the world I once knew change so drastically, I was once a politician and leader. I put all my faith in god and now I feel abandoned by him.”

From Wikipedia: “Artemas Ward (November 26, 1727 – October 28, 1800) was an American major general in the American Revolutionary War and a Congressman from Massachusetts. President John Adams described him as “…universally esteemed, beloved and confided in by his army and his country.” He was considered an effective political leader.”

If this is indeed a dead man, he learned how to use electronics 100 + years after his death. He told Alexis that he can walk this earth amongst us, but he can’t communicate with us other than through electronics, which makes perfect sense to people in the paranormal world. Without a physical body manipulating anything other than energy is difficult, so spirits tend to use TV, radio, static, EMF fields and other devices to communicate. Recently in the news there was a story of a man who received an email from his deceased friend. But I believe this is the first documented case pointed out by Paul Dale Roberts, where a spirit learned to text after he died which was before it texting was even invented. He learned to text in the after life.

It also would bring up the question where is he? Purgatory? “Nor angels, nor demons dwell.” Is he saying God does in fact exist like so many believe, if he feels abandoned by him? Or is he saying he’s never seen him and doesn’t really know? How did he learn how to text message? Why is he limited to what he can say? Why is he reaching out and can we expect more communication from him? Artemas answered some of those questions by saying, more people will be contacted. He also says that the youth will be a voice for them and others in his world. So were others contacted and if so, could you elaborate on the text and what it means? Did you get some of these questions answered with a text message from the spirit world?

A theory – I thought maybe the reason a spirit would use Jeremy and Alexis to make contact is because they were open to the paranormal. Jeremy saw an apparition that could be from the 1800′s when he was very young, walking the railroad tracks with his grandparents. He turned to yell for them and when he turned back an older man, with a beard, dressed in fisher mans clothes and holding a lantern had disappeared. Alexis’s whole family believes in the paranormal. Though I don’t know any of her personal experiences.

At the end of our conversations Jeremy shared with me his age. They are young adults, that aren’t quite out of their teens and the entity did say that youth would the voice for his kind. So it seems age could be the factor in this communication and maybe future interactions with spirits that walk among us. More communication may come to young adults via text messages. If that’s the case please contact HPI Paranormal Hotline with your text messages from the other side.

Last Sunday I took Phalen out for a walk while Rowan and Ronan took a nap under the watchfull eye of Dad. On our way to the Library we pass a Mortuary, as we are coming up we see a hearse and a line of cars parked out front. Phalen stops, tugs on my coat and says “mum, he doesn’t like the picture they have inside.” I look down at him, then up at the line of cars. “what?”
“GonGon, he doesn’t like the picture… that one!” he points to two men carrying a flower wreath on a tripod, in the wreath was a picture of an older man. They place the picture next to the hearse as mourners exit the mortuary.
Then I see him, the older male standing next to the hearse. He does seem a bit annoyed with the portrate, I feel in my head ~I would have preferred the picture with my wife~

Phalen inches closer as the casket is carried out, we keep a respectful distance but still end up near a young woman and her child, the little girl seemed to be Phalen’s age. She was sniffling into her mother’s coat. Phalen lets go of my hand, takes her hand and pats her shoulder, then proceeds to rattle off something in Cantonese (4 years of only speaking Cantonese at daycare. Kid is fluent in Cantonese and English, and thanks to Dora he’s getting really good at Spanish). I have limited Cantonese so I picked out ‘little sister’, ‘grandfather’ and ‘dog’.
The mother looks at us and asks, “how did your boy know he wanted us to have his dog?”
“How did he know that he was your grandfather on your mother’s side? Phalen can, well, what do you know about the spirit world?”
The mother smiles, “I watch Ghost Adventures. Will Grandfather rest?”
“of course he will, he just wanted to see everyone in one place before he goes to be with the rest of the family ancestors”
“thank you”
Phalen and I make our way down the block towards the Library. Just as we are about to cross the street, he turns and shouts “Water his Jubilee plant!”
The group falls very silent, watching my son, who smiles and waves, “bye bye GonGon, hug PoPo for MoiMoi. She misses you”. Then he turns to me and says “lets go find Waldo, mum”
One of the things I love about children is that they really have no filter. He had a message to give, so Phalen came right out to give it. No thought to whether the recipient ‘believed’ or not. Sometimes I find myself having to hold back because the person who is meant to have the message is not receptive, I miss the days when I could just up and tell people what they needed to hear.

THE FIRST DOCUMENTED POSSESSION!

The Watseka Wonder The small town of Watseka, Illinois is located about 50 miles south of Chicago and on the eastern side of the state, just a few miles from the Indiana border. The sensation that would come to be known as the “Watseka Wonder” would first make it’s appearance here in July of 1877. ‘It was at this time that a 13-year-old girl named Lurancy Vennum first fell into a strange, catatonic sleep during which she claimed to speak with spirits. The attacks occurred many times each day and sometimes lasted as long as eight hours. During her trance, Lurancy would speak in different voices although when she awoke, she would remember nothing. News of the strange girl traveled about the state and during this time of popularity for the Spiritualist movement, many visitors came to see her. ‘Finally, doctors diagnosed Lurancy as being mentally ill and they recommended that she be sent to the State Insane Asylum in Peoria, Illinois. In January of 1878, a man named Asa Roff, also from Watseka, came to visit the Vennum family. He claimed that his own daughter, Mary, had been afflicted with the same condition as Lurancy…and he was convinced that his daughter had actually spoken to spirits. ‘He was also convinced that his daughter’s spirit still existed….but little did he know, that she was right now inside the body of Lurancy Vennum! To understand the strange and fantastic events that took place in Watseka, we must first start at the beginning of the tale and try to piece together a puzzle that has disturbed investigators for years. Is spirit possession really possible? If you explore the strange case of the “Watseka Wonder”, you just might believe that it is! ‘Mary Roff died on the afternoon of July 5, 1865 while hospitalized at the State Mental Asylum in Peoria. She had been committed there after a bizarre incident when she began slashing at her arms with a straight razor. It was the final tragedy in Mary’s descent into madness and insanity. In the beginning, it had only been the strange voices that seemed to come from nowhere; next were the long periods when she stayed in a trance-like state; then came her moments of awakening, when she spoke in other voices and seemed to be possessed by the spirits of other people; then finally, came her obsession with blood. Mary was convinced that she needed to remove the blood from her body, using pins, leeches and at last, a sharpened razor. ‘After that final incident, her parents discovered her on the floor of her room, no longer conscious and lying in a pool of blood. Broken-hearted, they took her to the asylum and here, Mary endured more tragedy as the “cures” for insanity in those days were hardly up to the standards of psychiatric hospitals of today. A favored treatment in the 1860′s was the Water Cure, where a patient would be immersed naked in a tub of icy water and then taken to a tub of scalding water. And there was more…. female patients, like Mary, received a cold water douche, administered with a hose and then wet sheets were wrapped tightly around them to squeeze the blood vessels shut. This was followed by vigorous rubbing to restore circulation. These treatments were administered several times each week. ‘Not surprisingly, such techniques brought little success and most patients never improved. Mental hospitals at that time were merely cages to store the insane and it would be some years to come before any real progress was made in mental health care. ‘Like most others, Mary showed no improvement and soon died. At the time of Mary Roff’s death, Lurancy Vennum was a little more than one year old…. but in just over a decade, their lives would be forever connected in a case that remains today as one of the strangest, and most authentic, cases of possession ever recorded. Lurancy Vennum had been born on April 16, 1864 and she and her family had moved to Watseka when she was seven years old. Since they arrived long after Mary Roff’s death, the Vennum family knew nothing of her strange illness, nor did they know the Roff family, other than to speak to them on the streets of the small town. ‘Then on July 11, 1877, a series of strange events would begin. On that morning, Lurancy complained to her mother about feeling sick and then collapsed onto the floor, passed out cold. She stayed in a deep, catatonic sleep for the next five hours but when she awoke, she seemed fine. But this was only the beginning…. ‘The next day, Lurancy once again slipped off into the trance-like sleep but this time was different, as she began speaking aloud of visions and spirits. In her trance, she told her family that she was in heaven and that she could see and hear spirits, including the spirit of her brother, whom had died in 1874. From that day on, the trances began to occur more and more frequently and would sometimes last for up to eight hours. While she was asleep, Lurancy continued to speak about her visions, which were sometimes terrifying. She claimed that spirits were chasing her through the house and shouting her name. The attacks occurred up to a dozen times each day and as they continued, Lurancy began to speak in other languages, or at least in nonsense words that no one could understand. When she awoke, she would remember nothing of her trance nor of her strange ramblings. ‘The stories and rumors about Lurancy and her visions began to circulate in Watseka. People were certainly talking and even the local newspaper printed stories about her. No one followed the case more closely than Asa Roff, the father of Mary Roff. In the early stages of Mary’s illness, she too had claimed to communicate with spirits and would fall into long trances without warning. He was sure that Lurancy Vennum was suffering from the same illness as his poor daughter. But Roff said nothing until the Vennum family exhausted every known cure for Lurancy. It was not until the local doctor and a minister suggested that the girl be sent to the State Mental Hospital that Roff got involved. He refused to see another young woman end up as his Mary did in the hands of the doctors. On January 31, 1878, he contacted the Vennum family. They were naturally skeptical of his story but he did persuade them to let him bring a Dr. E. Winchester Stevens to the house. Stevens, like Asa Roff, was a dedicated Spiritualist and the two men had become convinced that Lurancy was not insane. They believed that Lurancy was actually a vessel through which the dead were communicating. Roff only wished that he had seen the same evidence in his own daughter years before. ‘The Vennum’s allowed Dr. Stevens to “mesmerize” the girl and try to contact the spirits through her. Within moments, Lurancy was speaking in another voice, which allegedly came from a spirit named Katrina Hogan. Then, the spirit changed and claimed to be that of Willie Canning, a young man who had committed suicide. She spoke as Willie for over an hour and then suddenly, she threw her arms into the air and fell over backward. Dr. Stevens took her hands and soon, Lurancy calmed and gained control of her body again. She was now in heaven and would allow a gentler spirit to control her. She said the spirit’s name was Mary Roff. ‘The trance continued on into the next day and by this time, Lurancy apparently was Mary Roff. She said that she wanted to leave the Vennum house, which was unfamiliar to her, and go home to the Roff house. When Mrs. Roff heard the news, she hurried to the Vennum house in the company of her married daughter, Minerva Alter. The two women came up the sidewalk and saw Lurancy sitting by the window. ” ‘Here comes Ma and Nervie,” she reportedly said and ran up to hug the two surprised women. No one had called Minerva by the name “Nervie” since Mary’s death in 1865. I ‘t now seemed evident to everyone involved that Mary had taken control of Lurancy Vennum. Although she looked the same, she knew everything about the Roff family and treated them as her loved ones. The Vennum’s, on the other hand, although treated very courteously, were seen with a distant politeness. It was as if their own daughter only knew them as friendly strangers. ‘On February 11, Lurancy, or rather “Mary”, was allowed to go home with the Roff’s. Mr. and Mrs. Vennum agreed that it would be for the best, although they desperately hoped that Lurancy would regain her true identity. The Roff’s however, saw this as a miracle, as though Mary had returned from the grave. Lurancy was taken across town and as they traveled, they passed by the former Roff home, where they had been living when Mary died. She demanded to know why they were not returning there and they had to explain that they had moved a few years back. Further evidence that Lurancy was now Mary Roff? For the next several months, Lurancy lived as Mary and seemed to have completely forgotten her former life. She did however, tell her mother that she would only be with them until “some time in May”. As time passed, Lurancy continued to show that she knew more about the Roff family, their possessions and habits, than she could have possibly known if she had been faking the whole thing. Many of the incidents and remembrances that she referred to had taken place years before Lurancy had even been born. ‘Of course, not everyone in Watseka believed that Mary had taken possession of Lurancy’s body and ridiculed the very idea of it. Several of the doctors who had attempted to treat Lurancy started scathing rumors about Dr. Stevens and the Vennum’s pastor pleaded with them to have Lurancy committed. He predicted a time when they would wish that they had followed his advice. In early May, Lurancy told the Roff family that it was time for her to leave. She became very sad and despondent and would spend the day going from one family member to the next, hugging them and touching them at every opportunity. She wept often at the thought of leaving her “real family” and over the next couple of weeks, a battle raged for control of Lurancy’s physical body. At one moment, Lurancy would announce that she had to leave and at the next moment, Mary would cling to her father and cry over the idea of leaving him. Finally, on May 21, Lurancy returned home to the Vennum’s. She displayed none of the strange symptoms of her earlier illness and her parents were convinced that somehow she had been cured, thanks to intervention by the spirit of Mary Roff. She soon became a happy and healthy young woman, suffering no ill effects from her strange experience. ‘She also remained in touch with the Roff family for the rest of her life. Although she had no memories of her time as Mary, she still felt a curious closeness to them that she could never really explain. During occasional visits to their home, Lurancy would sometimes allow Mary to take control of her so that she could communicate with her family. ‘Eight years later, when Lurancy turned 18, she married a local farmer named George Binning and two years later, they moved to Rawlins County, Kansas. They bought a farm there and had 11 children. Lurancy died in the late 1940′s while she was in California visiting one of her daughters. ‘Asa Roff and his wife received hundreds of letters, from believers and skeptics alike, after the story of the possession was printed on the front page of the Watseka newspaper. After a year of constant hounding and scorn from neighbors, they left Watseka and moved to Emporia, Kansas. Seven years later, they returned to Watseka to live with Minerva and her husband. They died of old age and are buried in Watseka. ‘The Vennum’s stayed on in Watseka for many years but after the death of her husband, Lucinda Vennum moved to Kansas with Lurancy and her children. Dr. Stevens lectured on the “Watseka Wonder” for eight years before dying in Chicago in 1886. Mary Roff was never heard from again. http://www.prairieghosts.com/wonder.html

Living in downtown San Francisco and working as an opener for a major coffee chain, I would bike to work between 4 and 4:30 in the morning. My route took me along Sansome towards Broadway, crossing California.

One morning while I was crossing California I saw a young woman in a white Victorian era dress with beautiful lace details. As she was crossing the street in front of me I noticed dainty shoes peeking out with each step. It was a very windy morning but her dress wasn’t being blown around, just the movement of walking. Her hair wasn’t moving either. She had sort of an internal glow for me to see as much detail that I did. The smell of lilac and lavender was heavy in the intersection, a place where there are no flower beds. As I drew parallel with her she vanished. I stopped and looked around, committing what I had seen to memory.

When I got home later that day I looked up ghosts in the area and found the story of a San Francisco socialite who disapeared while on her way to her social debute. Story has it that she was found years later in the midwest where she had run off to, having no desire to become part of the high society social scene. The ghost started appearing after the woman died, supposedly walking California street to Nob Hill trying to get to the party she missed in her life.

Whether that story is true or not, I do know that I saw her more than once while on my way to work, smelled the lilac and lavender on more than one occasion as well.

The Schizophrenic Psychic

By Belinda Bentley

“What kind of ghost is it that can lock doors?”…

Paul Dale Roberts sent me an email, he was in a meeting and really needed me to take a call. I was available so I called John and told him I was from the “HPI Paranormal Hotline” and I asked how could I help him. “What kind of ghost is it that can lock doors?” I repeated to him what he’d said making sure I heard right. He woke up one night and his bedroom door had been locked from the inside. I asked him, does he sleep with anyone at night that can vouch that he doesn’t sleep walk?

John believes he doesn’t sleep walk. He doesn’t think he locked the door himself and he says he hears ticking noises; sleeps with the light on because something wakes him up at 4 am in the morning and has woken up with scratches on his arms – three to be exact. Some believe this a sign of a demonic presence. Last, but not least he feels that he is psychic. He claims to be able to change the outcome of events, namely games. According to him he has made the Green Bay Packers win. He also says that he has to be psychic because he is a Virgo and the youngest child. I myself am not familiar with any folklore about Virgos and the youngest children being psychic. According to John, his parents saw how much being psychic drained him and took him to see a doctor. They called him a paranoid schizophrenic and he is now on medication.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says,
Not to be confused with Schizoid personality disorder, Schizotypal personality disorder, Schizoaffective disorder, or Schizophasia.

Schizophrenia (/ˌskɪtsɵˈfrɛniə/ or /ˌskɪtsɵˈfriːniə/) is a mental disorder characterized by a breakdown of thought processes and by poor emotional responsiveness.[1] It most commonly manifests itself as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young adulthood. [2] Diagnosis is based on observed behavior and the patient’s reported experiences.

Many people in the paranormal field feel Schizophrenia is a misdiagnosis for many psychics and mediums. After reading this I agree it sounds like every psychic I know. To any outsider looking at what a psychic medium experiences or tries to communicate from beyond is going to look odd, strange and maybe a bit insane or paranoid. Some might think it is bizarre or a delusion. We can believe in ghost, but some how it’s not OK to see them or hear them. I’ve seen so called “crazy” people walking the streets screaming at seemingly nothing. At times I have seen that there was in fact something there. Maybe those spirits are what drove the person crazy or they aren’t crazy at all. Unfortunately there was no way for me to tell if it was a condition or really paranormal in Johns case.

The medication he takes makes it harder to read him psychically. For him it suppresses the noise, the feelings, the activity, and it also suppressed his sexual functions, therefore he asked his doctor to lower the dosage so that he can remain sexually functional. The only problem is the paranormal began to stir within his home once more with a lower dosage. He told me he  doesn’t know if it is his condition or paranormal. He was hoping to get that answer from me.

When I asked him what he thought; was it his condition or ghost? He leaned towards the paranormal only after he’d woke up with his door locked. The door could just be broke. HPI would check it out, but he lives in Wisconsin.

He wants to developed his psychic abilities more, but it drains him. I advised against developing his psychic abilities if it was taking a toll on his health. The medicine suppressing all of his functions weren’t going to work for him in the psychic department, but against him which would only drain him more. I am not a doctor. I can’t advise him to stop taking medication just to be more psychic. The best advice I had was to deal with the problem at hand for now. I suggested he do a house blessing. Something Paul told me about sometime ago. John was excited when I told him what to do. Thrilled even. It was the first emotion I’d heard in the whole conversation. He said he would try it and will  let me know how it went. Then he excitedly hung up.

He was concerned in the beginning of our conversation that I just wanted to debunk everything. I assured him that wasn’t my job. My job was to find out how to help him and to get the facts that may lead us to the truth. “If your home isn’t haunted, then why would I scare you, by telling you it is. I just don’t want to assume anything.” He seemed to understand that. But it wasn’t until I gave him a solution, a solution to combat the paranormal that he really was happy. I felt he was joyful because someone actually cared enough not to assume he was crazy or assume it’s just his mental condition based on the fact he was labeled Schizophrenic. I know that he could in reality be having these experiences and if that is the case I don’t want him wishing someone would believe him. The help I’ve offered is harmless and has stopped paranormal activity in the past. I’m looking forward to his update in the near future.

“Learned helplessness is the giving-up reaction, the quitting response that follows from the belief that whatever you do doesn’t matter.” -Arnold Schwarzenegger

The word “belief” is a difficult thing for me. I don’t believe. I must have a reason for a certain hypothesis. Either I know a thing, and then I know it – I don’t need to believe it.
